In a joint research program of Verhaagen and Huitinga, funded by the Start2Cure Foundation, we will identify molecular pathways relating to remyelination in a clinically and neuropathologically well-characterized MS autopsy cohort of the Netherlands Brain Bank. We will study tissue of MS brain donors with a high intrinsic capability to remyelinate using gene expression profiling and (high resolution) microscopy. Targets will be validated in vitro using iPSC derived human oligodendrocytes and in vitro in animal models for MS using cutting edge gene therapy technology to deliver therapeutic targets to the CNS. Together with Start2Cure we will push for recovery of brain damage in MS by shortening the path from science to clinical application.
Requested skills:
- Experience in neuroimmunology, specifically MS-related pathology
- Experience with gene expression profiling in brain tissue (bulk RNA seq, sc hnRNA seq, in situ RNA seq)
- Experience with analyses of (human) brain tissue using light-, CLSM- and STED- microscopy
- You are a team player, proactive, a natural problem solver and enjoy making fast progress
Appreciated skills
- Experience with data analyses and R
