On Wednesday 21 September the book launch of Dick Swaab’s new book Ons creatieve brein (Our creative brain) took place in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. After an interesting lecture by Dick Swaab about the connexion between creativeness and the brain, the director of the Rijksmuseum, Taco Dibbits, was presented with the first copy.
In Ons creatieve brein, Dick Swaab shows what it is that makes us human beings: the interaction of our brain with our environment. Not only does the environment affect the unique development of each brain, it also contributes to the emergence of brain diseases – and to their cure. Music and the visual arts are not just creative means of communication, but also appear to be of therapeutic value for brain disorders. The way in which our brains develop, influences our choice of profession and, vice versa, our profession has an effect on the structure and function of our brain. The book deals with many societal consequences of brain research, such as choice of partner, philosophy, and criminal law.
Ons creatieve brein will be in bookstores from 23 September.
