Neuroscience Symposium
De Zeeuw Group

The Neuroscience Symposia are organized weekly by the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience. The presentations are given by researchers from the institute or by guest speakers. The title and content of the symposium is usually made known in the week prior to the presentation.

The symposium will be held online. A link will be provided via email.

Speaker: Catarina Osorio PhD, Postdoctoral Fellow Erasmus MC.
Member of: The development of cerebellar function and its role in sensorimotor integration.

Title: Differential spatio-temporal development of Purkinje cell populations shapes the emergence of cerebellum-dependent sensorimotor behaviors.

Distinct populations of Purkinje cells (PCs) with unique cellular and physiological features are at the core of the modular organization of the cerebellum. We investigated when these differences emerge during development and what their impact is on cerebellar sensorimotor function.
Additionally, we explored the consequences of a Purkinje cell-specific mutation during development for these distinct cerebellar modules. All together, we concluded that ZebrinII-defined cerebellar modules have unique developmental timelines that shape the function of specific cerebellum-dependent behaviors and their susceptibility to disease.
