Jahanshahi Group
Dr. Ali Jahanshahi’s research at the Social Brain Lab focuses on advancing both symptomatic and disease-modifying treatments for Parkinson’s Disease (PD). His innovative work leverages cutting-edge technologies such as focused ultra sound (FUS) and nanotechnology to explore novel therapeutic strategies.
Symptom Management
One of the primary goals of Dr. Jahanshahi’s team is to enhance current methods of symptom management for PD. They are investigating an alternative neuromodulation technique that combines FUS and nanotechnology. This approach aims to provide a noninvasive and wireless alternative to deep brain stimulation (DBS), potentially offering a more accessible and less invasive treatment option for patients.
Disease Modifying Treatments
Beyond symptom management, Dr. Jahanshahi’s research also targets the underlying causes of PD. His team uses FUS and nanotechnology to address proteinopathies that may contribute to neurodegeneration in PD. By delivering therapeutics across the blood-brain barrier (BBB) in targeted and region-specific manner, they aim to reduce the need for toxic systemic doses and improve treatment efficacy.
Innovative Approaches
This approach is distinguished by its focus on noninvasive and precise delivery methods. The combination of FUS and nanotechnology not only enhances the delivery of therapeutics but also opens new avenues for treating neurodegenerative diseases.
Dr. Ali Jahanshahi’s pioneering research in collaboration with the Social Brain Lab represents a significant step forward in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. His work holds promise for developing more effective and less invasive therapies, ultimately improving the quality of life for patients with PD.
