His bestseller ‘We are our brains’ has been translated into seventeen languages, and ‘Our creative brain’ is now also hitting the international market. In the meantime, Professor of Neurobiology Dick Swaab divides his time between the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience in Amsterdam and Zhejiang University in Hangzhou. He supervises countless PhD-students, dutifully continues his work on the Handbook of Clinical Neurology and searches the brain for the neurobiological mechanisms of depression, suicidality and Alzheimer’s. For this, he mainly uses postmortem brain tissue from the Netherlands Brain Bank (NBB), which he himself founded in 1985.
